Ch-ch-ch-changes

Changes may be a’brewin. I’m thinking about renaming The Thang Blog and rolling it into my artist site, www.RebeccaKling.com. I’m currently working on making my artist site something a little more professional, and a little less iWeb, and those thoughts collided with my growing realization that “The Thang Blog” is a really friggin’ vague title. Looking at other blogs I enjoy reading – Dear Diaspora, Feministe, Get Rich Slowly, Questioning Transphobia, and so on – the vast majority have names that are, if not descriptive, at least evocative.

I’m pretty sure I’d keep my primary email addresses at fridaythang.com, out of momentum if nothing else, but it seems like it might be time to phase out fridaythang.com as a place to send anyone looking for my existence online.

Thoughts on the potential move? My current idea for renaming my blog is to borrow my upcoming show title, Uncovering the Mirrors. (Did I ever mention I chose that as a show title? I did. Yay! More posts on the show coming soon…)

Except (and maybe this is a silly reason not to choose something) that’d put me even lower on people’s alphabetical blogrolls… I’m also considering all of the other ideas I considered as possible show titles, but would welcome other suggestions.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

You could just change your name to Aaaaandrea. And then insist that everyone pronounce every A.

What, are you crazy? Keep them separate! This is a good blog. Your two ideas probably have separate audiences, or at least not an even overlap.

But you could fix the spelling mistake in “20-somthing” in the tagline :p

Spelling mistake fixed. Never noticed it, but thanks for pointing it out!

And I wasn’t imagining just mashing the sites together – the blog would still be written as it has been, but at rebeccakling.com/blog rather than fridaythang.com/blog. (And, as I said here, possibly with a name change.) Why do you think I should leave the blog at fridaythang.com?

      • r. says:

Oh, don’t listen to me. It was the bit you wrote about I’m currently working on making my artist site something a little more professional that alarmed me, because I tend to enjoy blogs that are less professional and more personal and I couldn’t see how you could roll this into your professional site.

But then you have better creative skills than I do, so maybe you can.

As to the address of the blog, that doesn’t worry me at all.

        • Rebecca says:

Thanks for clarifying. My art is all about sharing my personal experiences, and I consider my blog a big part of that. Even if The Thang Blog moved over to rebeccakling.com, I wouldn’t intend to change how or why I’m blogging.

That said, I’m still not sure I want to do anything dramatic like change URLs…
