Don’t square dance while menstruating
I’m looking for some 1950s sex ed videos as part of something I’m thinking about for my next show, and thought I’d share. The restrictions on square dancing are near the end, around 4:30. (You can picnic while men-stru-ating, thank goodness!)
I do think it’s somewhat impressive how straightforward this video is – the information is presented without really beating around the bush. (No pun intended…) At the same time, women are shown to be entirely sexless. Even the ‘naked’ woman at 4:00 doesn’t have a vagina or nipples, she just has a “bosom” outline and a visible uterus. Admittedly, this is just one short video, but heaven forbid girls should actually be presented with images of what their vaginas look like. Stay tuned for more ridiculous sex ed videos!

The funniest part, I thought, was that you can wash your hair, “if you dry it quickly”. What!? I can’t figure out how menstruating would affect that!
I assumed it was because you could catch a cold from damp hair, but you’re quite right: it’s rather ridiculous.
