Possible show titles

I’m working on contract for the Chicago Fringe Festival and need to pick a title for my show. Trans Form was basically a lazy decision: I hadn’t written much of the show when I chose it, and it would fit whatever my show ended up being.

I’d like to put a little more thought into things this time, even though I still am trying to choose a title before I’ve finished writing the show. At the suggestion of a friend, I went back through my Trans Form script and pulled out lines or phrases that seemed like they might work as show titles. I’d love any thoughts or additional suggestions, though.

  • Often Referred To
  • Secondary Characteristics
  • Secondary ______ Characteristics (not sure what would go in the blank)
  • Results Not Guaranteed
  • I’ve Mapped the/a Way
  • 25 going on 16
  • I Didn’t Grow Boobs
  • 10 Milligrams Daily
  • Immersed in Saltwater
  • Passable Imitation
  • Gods of Bureaucracy
  • Nudity not Gender
  • Long and Flowing
  • Skirts and Dresses
  • Cover the Mirrors
  • Recently Talking
  • Supposedly Fun Childhood Experiences
  • The Journey is Scary
  • The Energy to be Me
  • Hairy Legs and a Dress
  • Lack of Stability

Well? Have at ‘em!

    The Change

I don’t know why, but the only one I like is “Often referred to”

  3. Jonah says:

I like 25 going on 16 best. I really don’t think hairy legs and a dress works as your story.

  4. Mym says:

I like ‘Often referred to’ and ’25 going on 16′ both, so I guess that’s not terribly helpful.

  5. Bond says:

    I like “25 Going On 16.”

  6. At first glance I combined two lines and got Nudity not Bureaucracy, which I like as a show title even if I’m not sure how you’d apply it to your story! Cover the Mirrors is nicely evocative if you plan to focus on mourning, I’ve Mapped a/the Way sounds interesting (but feels more satisfactorily title-y to me if it’s tweaked to something like Mapping a/the Way), and Results Not Guaranteed is intriguing and vague enough to give you a lot of directions to go in.

I like “Cover the Mirrors” best. It manages to cover gender, appearance, reflection, ambiguity, uncertainty, anxiety, grief, heritage, and ritual all at once.

Maybe “Results May Vary” is snappier?

I’m gonna wait a few years for internet saturation and then write a show called, “YMMV.”
