What the hell does “fishy” mean?

At a trans group tonight, I was told I was “fishy.” I don’t know what this means. It’s somehow related to passing, but I don’t know whether being fishy is a “good” thing or a “bad” thing…

Help.

I wish I knew… It makes me think of “something’s fishy here.” I dunno though. My experience of you when we hung out in person is that you pass very successfully as a woman so I dunno how this factors in…

Im a cis woman who was once called fishy at a drag bar, if that adds any context?

It means you pass well. Whether that’s good or bad depends on your goals, I suppose, but I think it’s meant to be a compliment. :)

Yes it’s draggy-speak for “passability”/”realness.” So it’s complimentary of you, while insulting 4-billion-odd others. It references the supposed odor of vagina. But consider the source; you couldn’t invent a group more ignorant of the characteristics of pussy than those who say “fish.”

Ahhh. That makes sense – thanks, Aislin. Although I must say, concerning vaginal familiarity, some trans women have at least a passing familiarity with vaginas… ;) But point definitely taken.
