Dyke Marched – Chicago Dyke March 2009
Phew! I am exhausted! I got home about three hours ago from the Chicago Dyke March and promptly took a nap. But I did get some great photos while I was there, so I wanted to share ‘em. I haven’t used a WordPress gallery before, but I hope it’s self-explanatory. You can see more in-depth descriptions of the photos by clicking on them, and let me know if you run into any trouble.
- To Dyke March we go!
- We ran into some bikers
- Things were a bit crazy on the bus…
- Friends on the bus!
- Banners at the staging area
- More banners
- Even more banners
- And lots of signs!
- Another sign
- Breasts!
- More breasts!
- The cops seemed pretty calm
- More cops
- Finally – marching pictures!
- More marching
- Even more marching
- Birds fleeing the rallying park
- A band playing at the rally
- Pretty good crowd at the rally
- Dance party at the rally!
- And, of course, a rainbow flag
- The Chicgao Dyke March 09 sign at the rally

Are you in any of these? Just curious — as far as I can tell the captions don’t say.
: )
Well, no… ::Hemming and hawing:: I’m usually more of a picture-taker than a picture-be-er-in-er. (Which couldn’t possibly have anything to do to with my own self-image issues.)
If you search for ‘Ares and Aphrodite’ on this blog, there’s some video from a piece I did (that I’m now working on expanding) and if you search for ‘mentorship photos’ there are some promo pictures from that same piece.
Hey, I’m a photography student — I won’t fault you for being a picture-taker.
Self-image issues are awful. You’re very pretty! You look a little like my mother when she was younger (which I mean as the highest order of compliment).
Thanks! I’m workin’ on it, and have more good days than I did once upon a time, but it’s been a process.
You should post some of your pictures! I’d love to see the sort of things you’ve been working on.
I just wanted to say thanks a lot for posting these, I hope you don’t mind if I use them for my own memories of the event. I brought a camera but could hardly get it to work. I am actually in one of your pictures, I am the one on the far right with the boa holding the “Lesbians & Gays Support Immigrant Rights”
banner. Thanks for taking that picture, I didn’t get one of that sign! I had such a great time, it looks like you did too!!! Happy Pride <3 and peace!
Alysa – Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Pride to you, too! I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, and I definitely had a blast at the march
Feel free to use ‘em, though if you do end up using them for publicity or what not I’d love a photo credit. If you’d like, email me at blog [at] fridaythang [dot] com for photo credit info and/or higher quality versions of the photos. I have some more of that sign (and the rest of the march) that didn’t make the cut for online viewing, but that I’d be happy to pass along.
